Philips OLED848: new Ultra HD 4K TV series from 48'' to 77''

In addition to the Philips OLED708, Philips OLED808 and Philips OLED908 TV series, the Philips OLED848 has appeared in the brand's catalog in recent weeks.

In short, the Philips OLED848 TV series is similar in all respects to the Philips OLED808 except for the color of the remote control, light here (and not dark) and the number of diagonals offered, four here (against five). The Philips OLED848 therefore has four references, the Philips 48OLED848 (48'', 122 cm), Philips 55OLED848 (55'', 140 cm), Philips 65OLED848 (65'', 165 cm) and Philips 77OLED848 (77'', 196 cm).

Philips OLED848 TV, the main developments

Philips OLED848 televisions therefore include the Smart Google TV 12 function, a sound section with DTS:X compatibility (precisely, a Dolby Atmos decoder and a Dolby Atmos Virtualizer function are still required), and HDR support Dolby Vision gaming up to 120 hertz.

P5 Gen7, heart of Philips OLED848 TVs

On the menu of all these TV series, and featured, the seventh generation of the P5 processor with artificial intelligence for a magnified HDR experience. We therefore find all the functionalities associated with this new chip: ambient light sensor, anti-marking system (to counter the Burn-In phenomenon)… Plus an improved version of the Ambient Intelligence process intended to adjust in real time the brightness, the gamma and colorimetry adapted to ambient lighting. This is based on a new light sensor that is much more precise to offer a white point that perfectly matches the lighting of the moment. Namely, the Super Resolution function, also improved, offers unprecedented sharpness and a great wealth of detail. Not to mention two HDMI 2.1 inputs (plus two HDMI 2.0) with eARC, VRR (from 40 Hz to 120 Hz), HFR 4K/120, ALLM, FreeSync Premium Pro and G-Sync compatibility.

Namely, the Game Bar is still present on Philips OLED848 TVs. This allows users to quickly access game-related settings, and change them on the fly without wasting time.

Philips OLED848 TV, Oled EX panel

Like the Philips OLED808 screens, we find that the OLED848 diffusers have an Oled EX panel that appeared in 2022 with light performance around 30% higher (peak light of 1,000 nits announced) than that of a panel Classic Oled (see our CES 22 news > New Oled EX TV panel by LG Display, 30% more brightness?). Please note, as with the OLED808 specimens, the Philips 48OLED808 television has a classic OLED panel and not OLED EX.

Philips OLED848 TV, Ambilight 3 sides and HDR10+ Adaptive, HDR HLG and HDR Dolby Vision

Compatibilities with Dolby Vision HDR technologies up to Ultra HD 4K and 120 Hz, HDR HLG and HDR10+ Adaptive are still required.

Also, the three-sided Ambilight function is in order. As a reminder, since last year the latter has been managing the color diodes placed at the back of the TV, around the edge of the panel, independently and no longer by group of diodes for a significantly more precise synchronization with the images displayed on the screen. 'screen. Finally, the new Ambilight Aurora gallery feature, rich in numerous embedded images and videos, allows as many exclusive artistic atmospheres in your living room.

Philips OLED848 TV, 2.1 70W sound system

As for the OLED808, the Philips OLED848 Oled TVs incorporate a 2.1 audio system with a total power of 70 W. The triple ring type subwoofer is completed by four passive membranes to reinforce the impact of the bass.

Still on the sound side, the Philips OLED848 TVs benefit from the DTS Play-Fi function allowing the configuration of a wireless 5.1 Home Cinema system or the integration of the TV into a multiroom system. Namely, the Philips OLED848 TV can even be used as the center channel within a multi-channel setup. Last precision, the Philips OLED848 TVs are equipped with a pivoting central foot, except for the 77'' which has new flat metal stick feet in satin chrome.
