More than half of Americans watch digital TV

Cable and linear broadcasting continue to give way to the streaming tidal wave…

According to digital marketing agency Adtaxi (via Mediaplaynews) 51% of Americans consume television digitally. For the majority of adults, streaming is the number one source of video, and 15% of adults consume all of their content digitally.

Streaming ahead of cable and linear TV

When it comes to choosing, 42% of adults turn to streaming services before cable (31%) and linear TV (11%). In 2023, an additional 3.6 million American households (or 8.8 million inhabitants) will disconnect from cable television. 87% of American adults say they use at least one paid streaming service, while 84% use a free one. Among paid streaming users, one in six subscribes to at least five services.

The word to Murry Woronoff, director of research at Adtaxi

“We are seeing consumers increasingly relying on streaming services and turning their backs on linear and cable options,” said Adtaxi Director of Research Murry Woronoff. Our poll results are backed up by recent reports from Nielsen that streaming has officially overtaken cable TV in viewership.”
