Big bucks in sight for streaming cut by advertising

In the coming years, advertising in streaming service programs will generate billions of dollars.

As Netflix and Disney+ launch ad-interrupted subscription options (AVOD), Digital TV Research estimates that the revenue generated by these commercial breaks will skyrocket in the years to come.

The word to Simon Murray of Digital TV Research

Specifically, this figure will be $38 billion in 2022 and is expected to reach $91 billion by 2028. By 2028, 15 streaming platforms will reach $1 billion in broadcast advertising revenue. "An interesting new development is the worldwide deployment of hybrid SVOD/AVOD options by major platforms such as Netflix, Disney+, HBO and Paramount+," explains Simon Murray of Digital TV Research. These four platforms alone will generate $22.6 billion in AVOD, or a quarter of the global total. »
