Apple has finally lifted the veil on the behind-the-scenes manufacturing of its very first foldable-screen smartphone, the iPhone Duo. During an interview given to the YouTube channel MrMobile, executives from the Cupertino company officially confirmed their partnership with Samsung Display for the production of an exclusive foldable OLED panel, equipped with an under-display camera and paired with IP68 certification.
The open secret is no longer one; Apple spoke a few days ago about its collaboration with Samsung Display to produce the exclusive display for its very first foldable-screen smartphone, the iPhone Duo. For some time now, rumors have claimed that this device’s screen is produced by Samsung’s display division. More than a rumor, it was obvious to specialists, since Samsung Display literally launched the foldable-screen smartphone market in 2019, and has since continued to improve foldable [abc]Oled[/abc] technology, becoming de facto THE specialist in the field.
Apple and Samsung Display, a panel designed to specifications
On the occasion of a recent interview with the MrMobile YouTube channel, Rich Dinh, vice president of hardware engineering at Apple, and JP Guillou, senior director of display technology, spoke at length on the subject, confirming what everyone already knew, namely a collaboration with Samsung. The two men explain that Apple did not settle for an off-the-shelf screen, but that the company submitted its goals and requirements to Samsung Display, which developed a specific display for the iPhone Duo.
