Samsung Display lifts the veil on its brand-new generation of OLED panels for mobile devices, the M16 series. Capable of reaching exceptional peak brightness of 10,000 nits, this display pushes the boundaries of screens and already equips the new iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, as well as the foldable iPhone Duo.
On the occasion of the recent announcement of the latest iQOO 16 smartphone in China, Samsung Display unveiled its very latest M16-series Oled mobile screen, capable of a peak brightness of 10,000 nits (specular), or 2,800 nits in overall peak (APL 100%) for perfect readability, even in full sunlight.
Apple gets it first, before the Galaxy S27
If the screen will naturally be integrated into the Galaxy S27 that Samsung will launch at the beginning of next year, it was nevertheless introduced on competing models, since it equips Apple’s brand-new smartphones: iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, as well as the foldable iPhone Duo.
M16-series Oled screen, reduced power consumption and cutting-edge specifications
In detail, the screen offers a WQHD resolution (2,560 x 1,440 pixels) and LTPO refresh rates between 1 and 165 Hz, not to mention power consumption reduced by 30% compared with the previous generation. We also note, for those who like the technical details, 124% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut, pulse-width modulation dimming (PWM, a technique used by Oled panels to reduce screen brightness: instead of lowering the electrical intensity of the pixels, which would degrade colors, the screen switches on and off very quickly) at 3,300 Hz (the flickering is so fast that it completely eliminates eye strain, even when reading in complete darkness), a 5,000 Hz touch sampling rate, an anti-reflective coating, as well as a polarizer-free design (film on-Cell, also called OCF).
