À on the occasion of Disney’s latest D23 event, Marvel introduced the new actors who will play the X-Men in the upcoming films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The cast notably includes Jean Grey (Sadie Sink, seen in Stranger Things), Cyclops (Kit Connor), Professor Xavier (Christopher Abbott), Emma Frost (Samara Weaving, daughter of Agent Smith in Matrix), Rogue (Inde Navarrette), and Storm (Maya Boyd). Young mutants set to replace the old guard, which is expected to bow out after the next two films, Avengers Doomsday and Secret Wars.
100 X-Men films, Kevin Feige believes
Marvel CEO Kevin Feige spoke enthusiastically about these new recruits, whom we could potentially see on screen for many years. “With nearly 90 years of comic book history, there are still a huge number of stories left to tell,” Feige said. “The other day, we announced a brand-new, very young cast for a franchise called X-Men. And that’s fantastic, because there have already been ten excellent X-Men films, but there could still be a hundred more.”
He continued: “These comics are full of sagas, one after another, that have not yet been adapted. And that’s great, because the stories that made me want to make this kind of film have not yet been told. I’m very excited about adapting them.”
So there is plenty of excitement, but be careful to keep the promise of “quality rather than quantity,” because the time has now come for redemption after Marvel’s relatively disastrous recent years for series and films.
