iPhone champion of the year for the first time?

In a gloomy context for the smartphone market, Apple could do well by becoming the best seller of the year for the first time in a long time.

According to the latest estimates from Counterpoint Research, 1.15 billion smartphones should be sold worldwide this year, down 6% compared to last year, the lowest result observed in the last ten years ( see illustration below).

iPhone 14 tops sales in the first half of 2023

For a few years already, Samsung has been the best seller of smartphones, but given the sales figures already achieved by Apple (the iPhone 14 is leading global sales in the first half of 2023 allowing Aple to consolidate its share of market, see illustration below), 2023 could mark a turning point and Counterpoint Research thinks that the iPhone can regain first place.

iPhone 15 leads sales in the second half of 2023?

Indeed, despite a “weak” market to say the least, the premium segment – stronghold of Apple – is in relatively good health. What's more, a large number of iPhone 12 owners are ready to change their device after having kept it for almost three years. The iPhone 15 to come at the start of the school year could therefore be a big success, which could catapult Apple ahead of Samsung for the number of annual sales.
