Premium TV market, on the rise by 2027 but declining growth for OLED

In early January, the renowned market research and analysis firm published its quarterly report on the premium TV market for the coming years. Among the forecasts, a turnover in constant progression to reach 34 billion dollars in 2027 but a growth revised downwards for the segment of OLED TVs. Explanations.

For the next five years, the analyst firm DSCC (Display Supply Chain Consultants) is rather confident about the expansion of the premium TV market segment (the most expensive models, therefore equipped with very large diagonals and the best equipment), even if the OLED TV sector will be less positive than previously expected.

Premium TV market 2022-2027, the growth of Oled TVs revised downwards

Its forecasts expect an average annual growth of 14% by 2027 of the premium television market to reach a turnover of 34 billion dollars. At the same time, the DSCC organization is reducing its growth forecasts related to the OLED TV segment for the 2022-2026 period due to disappointing sales from the second quarter of 2022 and extremely intense competition to come, particularly pecuniary, LCD TV.

DSCC specifies that its latest report excludes the rollable Dual Cell LCD and Oled TV segments, present in its previous editions, due to the abandonment of these technologies (Editor's note: the LG OLED65R1 TV has not indeed not renewed in 2022). So much for the future.

Regarding the past, DSCC announces that premium TV sales increased by 7% in 2022 to 21.3 million units. The associated receipts show a growth of 1% to 27.5 million dollars. Namely, DSCC predicts a slowdown in the premium TV market in the first half of 2023 before it recovers thereafter. “In our updated long-term forecast, we expect total shipments of advanced TVs to grow by a CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) of 14% from 2020 to 2027 to reach 34.4 million units, Oled TVs growing at a faster CAGR of 19% to 12.5 million versus 12% to 21.8 million for LCD TVs. We expect the Micro LED TV segment to reach 60,000 units in 2026, but this will still represent less than 0.2% of the advanced TV market,” says DSCC.
