Edi Gathegi, who almost stole the show from Superman in James Gunn's film, has just joined Miami Vice '85, the film by Joseph Kosinski produced by Universal Pictures. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor will play a small-time crook with big ambitions, quickly overtaken by events, but whose actions will have a major impact on the plot.

Miami Vice '85 inspired by the first season of Michael Mann's cult series
Michael B. Jordan will play Ricardo Tubbs, while Austin Butler will lend his features to James "Sonny" Crockett in this film that will explore the glamour and corruption of mid-1980s Miami through two undercover cops. Excellent news for a project that keeps gaining in appeal.
The film would notably be inspired by the pilot and the first season of the cult television series produced by Michael Mann, which had a considerable influence on both television and popular culture.
Miami Vice '85: toward a live-action version of GTA: Vice City?
Edi Gathegi joins a cast that also includes Alden Ehrenreich, Whitney Peak, Camila Morrone, Danny Ramirez, John Leguizamo and Andrew Schulz. And most certainly Walton Goggins, who is expected to play one of the henchmen of the drug lord played by John Leguizamo, the film's main antagonist.
Joseph Kosinski will direct the film, whose shooting is set to begin in November between New York and Miami. Designed for Imax, Miami Vice '85 will be released in theaters in May 2028.
With one or two exceptions, it's hard not to think that the new film from the director of F1 and Top Gun: Maverick is starting to have a delightfully vintage feel. A gallery of shady-looking faces, style, cool, and that Eighties atmosphere that already evokes a live-action version of GTA: Vice City. We honestly can't wait.
