Elon Musk is convinced that AI will steal our jobs (and his), while others think the opposite. The Pew Research firm recently surveyed the inhabitants of around thirty countries on this subject, and it turns out that 34 countries out of 37 think that AI will lead to a decrease in jobs rather than an increase. On average, 46% of all respondents hold this pessimistic view, while 9% think instead that AI will lead to more jobs. 13% think there will be no difference.
High-GDP countries increasingly worried
For high-GDP countries, the trend is rather toward pessimism, a reflection of fears regarding the automation of office tasks. Thus in the USA, 71% see jobs disappearing, whereas they were 64% two years ago. As for France, 60% of respondents have a negative view, while only 4% think that AI will generate more jobs.
