iPhone XX: Samsung's "micro-curved" screen for a borderless design

New leaks suggest a custom OLED screen, brighter and subtly curved on all four sides, for the anniversary iPhone XX model expected in 2027.
The Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station reports new details about the iPhone XX, a strikingly designed model that will celebrate the 20th anniversary of Apple's smartphone in 2027. A "micro-curved" OLED screen for an unprecedented edge-to-edge effect for Apple. The screen, produced by Samsung Display, is said to be a custom micro-curved OLED model for Apple, brighter than existing screens. This is the first time the term "micro-curved" has been mentioned in iPhone XX rumors, and it refers to the subtle way Apple wants the screen to wrap around all four sides of the smartphone, unlike existing Samsung models, which have a more abrupt curve. The goal: a seemingly borderless screen that seamlessly extends over all four sides of the device.

Screen without a polarizing layer thanks to COE technology for greater thinness and brightness

Furthermore, Apple wants a screen without the usual polarizing layer, for a reduced thickness. This information corroborates a rumor from last September, which mentioned the use of Color Filter on Encapsulation (COE) technology, a filter that reduces reflections and makes the polarizing layer obsolete. Such a screen would thus be thinner, allow more light to filter through thanks to increased transparency, and contribute to increased battery life.
