"One small step for iPhone…": The iPhone 17 Pro Max has traveled around the Moon

The Artemis II mission around the Moon returned safely to Earth about ten days ago. And Apple's CEO is very pleased that the iPhone was part of the journey.
From April 1st to 11th, 2026, the four astronauts of the Artemis II mission orbited the Moon before returning to Earth, accompanied on this historic adventure by their trusty iPhones. A first in the history of space travel. Tim Cook hails a historic first for mobile photography. Of course, photos were captured with these iPhone 17 Pro Max devices, not to mention the superb selfies that, unsurprisingly, made Apple proud. “You have beautifully captured the wonders of space and our planet, taking iPhone photography to new heights, and we are grateful that you shared them with the world,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s soon-to-be former CEO (he will step down on August 31 in favor of John Ternus), after the mission landed. Greg Joswiak quipped: “One small step for iPhone…” “Honored that NASA astronauts took the iPhone with them into space,” added Apple’s president of marketing, Greg Joswiak. “One small step for iPhone. One giant leap for space selfies.”
