The Hi-Fi market continues its consolidation, and now Barco is making a major move.
The Belgian specialist in cinema projection and professional video solutions announces an agreement in principle to acquire 100% of VerVent Audio Holding, parent company of the Focal and Naim brands. Two absolute benchmarks of French and British Hi-Fi thus come under the Barco banner, a player previously focused on image technology. Barco, from projection to integrated audiovisual systems. Following Bose's acquisition of the McIntosh Group in 2024, this operation confirms that high-end audio is no longer a niche market but a strategic link in integrated audiovisual ecosystems: luxury residential installations, immersive rooms, car audio, and professional solutions. For An Steegen, CEO of Barco, the objective is clear: to offer systems where image and sound mutually reinforce each other, capitalizing on Focal's expertise in loudspeakers and Naim's expertise in electronics. Focal/Naim, a turnkey global retail network; VerVent represents another decisive asset: a network of over 80 Focal Powered by Naim stores and thousands of points of sale worldwide. This provides Barco with an immediate launchpad in the high-end residential market, while strengthening its presence in the entertainment and premium audiovisual sectors. €135 million to scale up; Valued at €135 million, the acquisition (financed with equity) is still subject to approval by employee representatives and regulatory authorities. VerVent will then join Barco's Entertainment division, which promises to maintain its high-end positioning, accelerate the development of connected products, and continue international expansion. One thing is certain: the arrival of Barco will allow Focal/Naim to scale up and very likely reshuffle the cards in the premium audio sector.
