The Switch recently became officially Nintendo's best-selling console of all time. Will it now manage to dethrone Sony's undisputed champion, the PlayStation 2?
In its latest quarterly earnings announcement, Nintendo revealed that the original Switch console has reached 155.37 million units sold worldwide throughout its lifespan. This surpasses the Nintendo DS, with 154.02 million units sold, which previously held the title of Nintendo's best-selling console of all time. Will the Nintendo Switch break the PlayStation 2's record? This performance, which was anticipated two years ago, makes the Switch the second best-selling console of all time, across all manufacturers, behind Sony's PlayStation 2 and its 160 million units. Given that the Switch is gradually being phased out in favor of its little sister, the Switch 2, released in 2025, there's little chance it will ever surpass Sony's record.
