PS6 and new Xbox delayed… because of AI

The success of AI and its voracious appetite for RAM chips could increase the price of next-generation consoles, or even delay their release.
According to Insider Gaming's sources within the video game industry, rising RAM chip prices could delay the release of the next generation of consoles. All because of AI. Rising prices and stock shortages: a volatile mix. Indeed, the success of artificial intelligence requires a huge amount of RAM, hence the exponential price increase seen for this component in recent months. A surge in prices, but also stock shortages, for this essential element in the manufacture of consumer electronics, particularly video game consoles. The top brass at Sony and Microsoft are therefore wondering what strategy to adopt for the coming years, and are even considering delaying the next-generation machines, the new Xbox and PlayStation 6, in the hope that RAM prices will fall. As a reminder, the release of these consoles is currently estimated for 2027-2028. The gaming market, and more specifically the console market, is therefore heading either towards delayed releases, or towards machines sold at prices that defy all logic… Or, in the worst-case scenario, both, Captain!
