Samsung NQ8 AI Gen3 chip: artificial intelligence at the service of the best image in the world?

Offering the image more detail than the source provides, for absolutely stunning picture quality, is the function of the brand-new NQ8 AI Gen3 processor featured in the new 2025 Samsung QN990F Ultra HD 8K Neo QLED TV series. The Korean manufacturer announces unprecedented visual performance for perfect viewer immersion. So, how does it work?
More than just a video processing unit, this NQ8 AI Gen3 processor represents a revolution in how images are analyzed, optimized, and displayed. Its architecture is specifically designed for artificial intelligence, enabling real-time image processing with unparalleled precision to fully exploit the exquisite detail of 8K panels. The NQ8 AI Gen3, a super-powerful AI architecture for 8K. The NQ8 AI Gen3 chip, the most powerful ever featured in a TV from the brand (and in any TV at all), utilizes an enhanced Neural Processing Unit (NPU). Its computing power has roughly doubled compared to the previous generation, with an increased capacity to utilize the 768 complex neural networks expected by 2025 (a 50% increase compared to last year). Thanks to this, the processor can analyze and optimize each pixel of the image on the fly, relying on machine learning models based on millions of visual content pieces. It is therefore capable of processing a particularly large volume of data in real time. Its AI-powered upscaling system, called 8K AI Upscaling Pro, uses a proprietary deep learning algorithm to transform lower-resolution content. While the result is already remarkable with SD and HD resolutions, with Full HD or Ultra HD 4K signals, the image appears close to native Ultra HD 8K quality (see image above). This process goes far beyond simple pixel extrapolation. It reconstructs missing details, refines textures and improves overall sharpness based on multiple "visual patterns", which are actually complex image elements grouped within databases. The same applies to the Auto HDR Remastering Pro and AI Color Booster Pro features, which respectively "transform" an SDR signal into HDR quality and display a richer color space. Once again, neural modules are used to display brighter images, deeper blacks, more saturated colors, and greater detail in dark areas, for a significantly improved on-screen experience. The Samsung NQ8 AI Gen3 features video processing based on contextual analysis and dynamic adaptation. Its built-in artificial intelligence also allows the NQ8 AI Gen3 processor to automatically recognize the type of content displayed on the screen, categorizing it into three groups: Sports, Movies/Series, and General. Whether it's a football match, a movie, or a talk show, the processor adjusts image parameters (brightness, contrast, saturation, etc.) in real time using AI Mode technology. After identifying the content displayed on the screen, it selects the most suitable picture mode, which is customized beforehand according to the user's preferences. No more navigating menus to select Filmmaker Mode or Sport Mode depending on the program being watched; the TV adapts automatically and instantly to the viewer's preferences, for enhanced ergonomics. Samsung NQ8 AI Gen3: Synergy between image, sound, and environment. Good news: the NQ8 AI Gen3 processor isn't limited to image processing. It also contributes to sound optimization through the Adaptive Sound Pro function. Here again, the NQ8 AI Gen3 processor is used to automatically optimize the sound for each type of content: sports, video games, movies, series, documentaries, news channels, etc. It can dissect the different components of a sound signal—dialogue, sound effects, or music—to maximize one while limiting the others. Once identified, the sound levels of each speaker are automatically rebalanced for a more immersive listening experience. Gaming: The Samsung NQ8 AI Gen3 processor plays the game. Another evolution in 2025 benefits the gaming section. While the ability to automatically detect when a game console or gaming PC is connected to the TV and switch to AI Auto Game Mode was already available, the NQ8 AI Gen3 chip now recognizes the genre of the game being displayed and automatically adjusts the settings accordingly. Of course, it's still possible to modify these settings via a redesigned Game Bar. With the NQ8 AI Gen3 processor, the most powerful ever used by Samsung and further enhanced with artificial intelligence, the Korean manufacturer is taking a technological leap forward in image processing with the goal of offering the best TV picture in the world. And it must be said that the results observed on these televisions equipped with 8K UHD panels are truly impressive.
