iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max: Stronger, More Powerful, and Pro Photo/Video Capabilities

New back-to-school season, new iPhone line, with models that are naturally more powerful than those of the previous year. After our post on the iPhone Air (see our iPhone Air news, finally something "new" from Apple!), here's a look at the premium iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models.

Apple's annual conference took place yesterday, leaving in its wake four new iPhones, including two new representatives of the Pro range, the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max.

iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max: out with titanium, in with aluminum££££

Let's start right away with the disappearance of titanium, which was introduced only two years ago on the iPhone 15 Pro. The noble material has been replaced by aluminum, which is stronger and less prone to overheating, which is also dissipated by a new heat pipe in the devices. Aluminum is also lighter, more easily produced, and leaves a smaller carbon footprint than titanium. In short, it's a win-win for everyone.

iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max: screen, camera and Ceramic Shield material 2££££ The robustness is supported by the Ceramic Shield 2 material now on the front and Ceramic Shield on the back, stronger and more scratch-resistant. On the screen side, the iPhone 17 Pro has a 6.3" (16 cm) diagonal and the Pro Max 6.9" (17.52 cm), and both offer a maximum brightness of 3,000 nits outdoors, as well as twice the contrast. On the back, the camera module (redesigned in terms of design) is adorned with three 48-megapixel Fusion lenses. The telephoto lens offers an 8x optical zoom, compared to the 5x specimen of the iPhone 16 Pro. We also note compatibility with ProRes Raw, Apple Log 2 and Genlock formats.

iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max: zoom on the selfie camera££££ Another notable improvement for the selfie sensor, representing the biggest evolution since the iPhone 12, an 18 megapixel specimen. A square-shaped model for the first time, allowing the field of vision to be extended automatically if it detects several people, switching from Portrait mode to Landscape mode without having to turn the device. It also offers better quality images, especially in low light conditions, and can film stabilized videos up to 4K HDR. Also worth noting is a new function previously reserved for Android devices, the ability to film with both cameras - rear and front - simultaneously, so as to see your face in a window on the captured image. Better late than never.

iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max: A19 Pro chip, connectivity and up to 2TB of storage££££

On the processor side, we find the new A19 Pro with a six-core CPU and a six-core GPU (one more than the new iPhone Air), as well as the new N1 chip which integrates [abc]Wi-Fi[/abc] 7, [abc]Bluetooth[/abc] 6 and Thread connectivity. Everything is cooled by the introduction of a new component already mentioned above, a heat pipe, also known as a vapor chamber. With a higher capacity battery (4,252 mAh for the 17 Pro and 5,088 mAh for the 17 Pro Max), the iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max stands out for the longest battery life ever announced on an iPhone, with 39 hours of video playback on a full charge. For storage options, the iPhone 17 Pro is available in 256GB, 512GB and 1TB, while the P17 Pro Max offers the same capacities, with the bonus of a 2TB model. A storage capacity offered for the first time on an iPhone. Finally, the iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max have 12GB of RAM.
