According to Mark Gurman, and we tend to agree, the iPhone 17 range for the next fall will keep the usual numbering, and will not adopt an annual name (i.e. iPhone 26) as Samsung has done since 2020 with the Galaxy S20.
Vintage name for iPhone, unlikely hypothesis…££££
The hypothesis has become a possibility among some analysts since it is strongly assumed that the operating systems of Apple products will undergo a homogenization which should be announced on June 9 at WWDC 2025. To summarize, instead of the expected iOS19, iPadOS19, macOS16, tvOS19, watchOS12, and visionOS3, we will have iOS26, iPadOS26, macOS26, tvOS26, watchOS26 and visionOS26. According to Mark Gurman, iPhone users are much more sensitive to naming conventions than Samsung fans. Such a change could therefore be disruptive, especially since if the names are linked to years, previous models will seem even more "outdated" and therefore less attractive.
