Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, (very) smart and rounded

Samsung announced on January 22 its new trio of smartphones Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+ and Galaxy S25 Ultra. Presentation of the last named, the most premium, before returning to the other two models.

As usual, it was at the recent Unpacked conference that Samsung unveiled the new Galaxy S range for the 2025 model year.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, AI still in the spotlight££££

The Galaxy S25 range continues to highlight the artificial intelligence introduced in force last year. Samsung is thus evolving its Galaxy AI platform with new features and improving some of the existing ones thanks to the increased power of machine learning algorithms.

Multimodal AI agents are thus embedded to interpret text, voice, images and videos, in order to offer more natural interactions. The Surround feature has been improved for Search with Google, which now recognizes phone numbers, email addresses, and URLs displayed on the screen to make a call, send a message, or visit a website with a simple gesture.

Design-wise, Samsung is keeping the titanium edge introduced last year inspired by competing iPhones. Little else has changed except for rounded corners (predicted by rumors) for a more pleasant grip.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, screen and processor££££

By the way, the screen of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is a Dynamic Amoled 2X specimen, therefore 120 Hz, of 6.9'' (17.52 cm) with a resolution of 3,120 × 1,440 pixels, equipped with the new Corning Gorilla Armor 2 which is more resistant than glass. In terms of performance, Samsung has integrated the Octa Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor clocked at 4.4 GHz (2 x 4.47 GHz Oryon V2 Phoenix L + 6 x 3.53 GHz Oryon V2 Phoenix M) and engraved in 3 nm, supported by an Adreno 830 graphics chip, 12 GB of RAM and a choice of 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB of Flash memory.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, photo capabilities££££

As for photography, Galaxy AI is still at work for editing. You can thus surround a subject of your choice, isolate it, move it, change its size, or completely remove it from the frame. This function depends less on the Cloud this year, thanks to the increased power of the processors.

For the hardware part, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra has a quadruple sensor: 200 Mpxls wide-angle (24 mm, 0.6 µm photosite, multi PDAF, Laser AF, stabilized) + 50 Mpxls periscopic (111 mm, f/3.4, 0.7 µm photosite, x5 optical zoom, PDAF, stabilized) + 50 Mpxls ultra-wide-angle (f/1.9, 0.7 µm photosite, Dual Pixel, PDAF, stabilized) + 10 Mpxls telephoto lens (f/2.4, 1.12 µm photosite, x3 optical zoom, PDAF, stabilized). There is also an LED flash and autofocus. Among the new features this year, depth of field control thanks to the Virtual Aperture function. For its part, the selfie camera is 12 Mpxls (26 mm, 1.12 µm photosite, Dual Pixel PDAF).

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, video capabilities££££

In terms of video, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra can naturally record sequences in 4320p (Ultra HD 8K) resolution up to 30 fps, 2160p (Ultra HD 4K) up to 120 fps, 1080p (Full HD) up to 240 fps, all in HDR10+. For the selfie camera: 2160p up to 60 fps or 1080p up to 30 frames per second.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra adopts Bluetooth 5.4 LE, NFC and Wi-Fi 7 standards. For its part, the battery (non-removable) has a capacity of 5,000 mAh. On this subject, learn that the batteries are partly designed from cobalt from old Galaxy devices or discarded batteries, and that the 40% larger vapor chamber and a thermal interface material improve thermal efficiency, for less overheating. And as a reminder, the S-Pen stylus is of course still in place.

The word to TM Roh, president and director of the Samsung Mobile division££££

“The greatest innovations are a reflection of their users, so we have evolved Galaxy AI so that everyone can interact smoothly and naturally with their devices, while being assured of the confidentiality of their data,” said TM Roh, president and director of the Mobile eXperience division of Samsung Electronics. The Galaxy S25 series paves the way for an operating system based on artificial intelligence that will radically change our relationship with technology, but also our lifestyle habits."
