As usual, it was during the recent Unpacked conference that Samsung unveiled the new 2024 Galaxy S range.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, on-board AI££££
A range which this year is posed from the angle of artificial intelligence, Samsung incorporating for the first time its Galaxy AI platform, bringing new functionalities and improving other already existing aspects thanks to the power of machine learning algorithms.
Notable mention for Instant Translation, a kind of real-time interpreter which translates, for example, a telephone conversation with a person who does not speak your language (13 languages available, including French). Another feature highlighted, Circle to Find, with which you simply circle an object or other point of interest in a photo for it to be automatically spotted, recognized, and documented via a Google search.
Exclusive for the moment on the Galaxy S24 range, Galaxy AI technology will arrive in 2024 on other models from last year, notably the Galaxy S23.
On the hardware side, Samsung is once again taking inspiration from its competitor Apple and introducing a titanium edge for the first time. Little change otherwise, except a screen which gets rid of the rounded edges to become completely flat, just to facilitate the use of the S Pen stylus, always supplied.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, screen and processor££££
The screen of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is a Dynamic Amoled 2X specimen, therefore 120 Hz, 6.8'' (17. 3 cm) with a 19.5:9 ratio featuring a resolution of 3,088 × 1,440, HDR10+ compatibility, a peak light at 2,600 nits (compared to 1,750 on the previous model) and a coating Gorilla Glass Armor.
On the performance side, Samsung has integrated the Octa Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 2 GHz processor (1 x 3.39 GHz Cortex-X4 + 3 x 3.1 GHz Cortex-A720 + 2 x 2, 9 GHz Cortex-A720 + 2 x 2.2 GHz Cortex-A520) engraved in 4 nm, supported by 12 GB of Ram memory and a choice of 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB of Flash memory, plus an Adreno 750 graphics chip.

When it comes to photography, Galaxy AI is at work for editing. As already indicated, you can surround a subject of your choice, isolate it, move it, change its size, or completely remove it from the frame. For the hardware part, the Galaxy S24 Ultra has a quadruple sensor: wide-angle 200 Mpxls (24 mm, f/1.7, photosite 0.6 µm, multi PDAF, Laser AF, stabilized) + periscopic 50 Mpxls (111 mm , f/3.4, photosite 1.12 µm, optical zoom x5, Dual Pixel, PDAF, stabilized) + telephoto lens 10 Mpxls (67 mm, f/2.4, photosite 1.12 µm, optical zoom x3, Dual Pixel , PDAF, stabilized) + 12 Mpxls ultra-wide-angle (13 mm, f/2.2, photosite 1.4 µm, Dual Pixel, PDAF, stabilized). For its part, the selfie camera is 12 Mpxls (26 mm, Dual Pixel PDAF and f/2.2 aperture). There is also an LED flash. For video, Galaxy AI allows a new function that should please: the possibility of transforming a normal video into a slow motion video at 120 frames per second. It is the artificial intelligence which is responsible for creating the intermediate images to create a slow motion even if you had not planned it in terms of capture.

At the technical level, the smartphone can naturally record video sequences in 4,320p resolution (Ultra HD 8K) up to 30 fps, 2,160p (UHD 4K) up to 120fps and 1080p up to 960fps. For the selfie camera: 2 160p up to 60 fps or 1080p up to 30 fps. And if you were wondering why we went from an x10 optical zoom on the S23 to an x5 on the S24, it's still the AI which is in charge to digitally simulate an x10 apparently of better quality than on the model previous.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra adopts Bluetooth 5.3 LE, NFC and Wi-Fi 6E and 7 Tri-Band standards. For its part, the battery (non-removable) has a capacity of 5,000 mAh. The fast charging function is required (45 W), the same goes for Reverse Charging (4.5 W) and fast wireless charging (15 W). And as a reminder, the S-Pen stylus is of course still there. Final details, the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor is placed under the screen, the Bixby, Samsung Pay, Samsung DeX functionalities are on board, and we note the 384 kHz/32 bit compatibility in addition to the IP68 certification. Finally, Android 14 is in charge.
Immediate availability in titanium gray, titanium black, titanium purple or titanium amber colors for January 30.
