Direct payments via NFC with the iPhone were until now reserved for the Apple Pay application, an exclusivity which will soon end. Indeed, after having given in on the Lightning port, replaced by the USB-C standard, then on the App Store monopoly, Apple will further give ground in order to comply with the latest European legislation.
NFC payment, Apple Pay and third-party applications££££
After four years of investigation, the European Commission decided that it was anti-competitive for NFC payment to be reserved solely for the Apple Pay service. In the 27 countries of the European Union, including France, third-party payment applications may in the near future also be used on iPhone to make direct purchases.
