Ridley Scott and Paul Mescal posted photos of themselves, cigars on their lips, to celebrate the event. Paul Mescal will star in the film, also starring Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, Connie Nielsen, Djimon Hounsou, Matt Lucas and Derek Jacobi.
In this sequel to the 2000 film, Paul Mescal plays an adult version of Lucius, the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) in Gladiator the First. The latter would have spent around fifteen years in the desert without his mother knowing where he was. Denzel Washington plays a former gladiator who won his freedom and became rich, but who still harbors a certain grudge within him.
