Google Pixel 8 Pro smartphone, integrated thermometer and AI

Google presents the new annual iteration of its Pixel smartphone range, consisting of two models, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. After our presentation of the first named (see our Google Pixel 8 Smartphone news, a brain in your pocket), spotlight on the second.

Let's start on an original point since the Google Pixel 8 Pro is the first Pixel Pro smartphone to have a thermometer. You remember when we joked a few years ago about the versatility of smartphones, saying that one day they will make coffee. Well we're almost there (right?). This thermometer therefore allows, among other things, to quickly measure the temperature of different objects (pans, drinks, etc.), by scanning them with your smartphone. Witchcraft or advanced technology? We'll let you be the judge.

Google Pixel 8, the screen

Return to pragmatism with, for this Googe Pixel 8 Pro, a high-resolution Oled Super Actua screen of 6.7'' (approximately 17 cm) 120 Hz HDR10+ with a resolution of 1,344 x 2,992 pixels in 20/9 format (489 ppi), featuring a peak light of 2,400 nits and protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

Google Pixel 8, the processor

For the design, we will note a polished aluminum frame and, for the first time on a Pixel Pro, a matte rear window. The processor is a Google Tensor G3 Nona Core specimen (1 x 3 GHz Cortex-X3 + 4x 2.45 GHz Cortex-A715 + 4 x 2.15 GHz Cortex-A510) engraved in 4 nm, supported by an Immortalis graphics chip. G715s MC10, 12 GB of Ram memory and 128 GB, 256 GB or 512 GB of flash memory. This power notably allows certain AI features such as the Magic Audio Eraser which is used to erase unwanted sounds from videos.

Google Pixel 8, photo and video capabilities The Google Pixel 8 Pro camera consists of a 50 MP wide-angle sensor with Octa PD technology (f/1.7, 25 mm, 1/1.31", 1.22 µm photosite, multi-PDAF). directional, Laser AF autofocus, stabilized), a 48 Mpxls telephoto lens (f/1.8, 113 mm, 1/2.55", photosite 0.7 µm, PDAF Dual Pixel, 5x optical zoom, stabilized) and a 48 Mpxls ultra-wide-angle sensor (f/2.0, 126°, photosite 0.8 µm). The ultra-wide-angle selfie sensor is a 10.5 Mpxls model (f/2.2, 20 mm, 1/3.1", photosite 1.22 µm, PDAF).

Video recording is possible at up to Ultra HD 4K at 60 fps or 1080p at up to 240 fps on the main sensor, up to Ultra HD 4K at 60 fps on the selfie camera.

Google Pixel 8, main features This artillery of sensors is supported by a range of powerful software, starting with the new Video Boost technology (available soon via update) to benefit from HDR+ and calibration of improved colors. Also note for the first time the video night vision mode. The functions linked to AI are also included, for example the Google Assistant who can be asked to summarize, to read aloud and translate web pages. It can thus paraphrase the text on the screen and communicate the key points to you.

Google Pixel 8, other specifications

Côte connectivity, we note a USB Type-C port, Wi-Fi 7 Tri Band, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 5.3 LE, APT-X HD and NFC compatibility for connectivity. Finally, a fingerprint sensor under the screen is required. Another good point, the Google Pixel 8 Pro is water resistant (IP68 certifications). Among other features, note that the Google Pixel 8 is powered by the latest Android 14 operating system, a 5,050 mAh battery, wireless charging (23 W), reverse charging and fast charging (50% in only 30 minutes). For the audio section, two speakers provide stereo rendering.
