iPhone 15 and 15 Plus: 48 Mpxls sensor and USB-C port

Apple recently presented its new iPhone 15 range. After our presentation of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max (see our news iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, attack of the titans), spotlight on the “entry-level” versions 15 and 15 Plus, which take over some features from last year’s Pro models.

From a distance, the iPhone 15 looks a lot like the iPhone 12 which brought a significant design change with its straight edges. But this year these “bottom of the range” models join their big brothers by rejecting the notch which now makes way for two dynamic perforations – one circular, the other oval – for the front sensors.

iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, the Dynamic Island function is coming

Aware of the limited aesthetics of this approach on the iPhone 14 Pro, Apple had camouflaged the misery with a concept called Dynamic Island, which we find here. In summary, the software part of the smartphone changes the size of the black frame around the sensors according to needs: notifications, alerts, navigation interface, etc. As a result, the perforations become more discreet, and the aesthetic handicap is transformed into ergonomic functionality. Clever.

iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, the screens

The Oled Super Retina 556 x 1,179 pixels (460 ppi) with support for HDR10, HDR HLG and HDR Dolby Vision technologies, and a peak brightness of 2,000 nits. The iPhone 15 Plus screen benefits from a resolution of 2,796 x 1,290 pixels (460 ppi) with management of HDR10, HDR HLG and HDR Dolby Vision technologies, and again a light peak of 2,000 nits.

iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, USB-C port and A16 Bionic processor

Another notable change this year, the disappearance of the proprietary Lightning port, in favor of the USB-C standard (USB 2 format) imposed by European legislation. are powered by the Hexa Core A16 Bionic processor engraved in 4 nm which has already proven itself on the iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max (another point of differentiation with the 15 Pro models benefiting from the new A17 Bionic). is supported by a 5-core Apple graphics processor.

iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, dual photo/video sensor

The dual camera consists of a brand new 48 Mpxls sensor (aperture ƒ/1.6), inherited from the iPhone 14 Pro, associated with a 12 megapixel ultra wide-angle (f/2.4). A combination that offers x2 optical/x5 digital zoom.

Note, Night Mode allows you to capture beautiful shots in low light conditions and a Smart HDR 4 function distinguishes human beings to produce a specific rendering depending on the areas of the image. The selfie camera is also 12 Mpxls (f/1.9). On the video side, the main sensor can film up to Ultra HD 4K at 60 fps, even in HDR Dolby Vision, or in 1080p up to 240 fps; 2 160p up to 60 fps or 1080p up to 120 fps on the selfie camera.

iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, first aid tools

We of course find the accident detection function, in particular car crashes, introduced on the iPhone 14. The smartphone's sensors make it possible to detect if they have been shaken as in an accident and automatically suggest calling rescue. Along the same lines, it's still possible to make emergency calls via satellite, perfect if you find yourself stranded in the wilderness. And for “classic” connectivity, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 certified.

iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, autonomy and IP68 certification

In bulk, the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus have an IP68 protection rating and are water resistant for up to 30 minutes up to 6 m deep. Otherwise, we can note Dolby Atmos compatibility and Face ID and NFC are also present. In terms of battery life, Apple promises up to 26 hours of video playback on iPhone 15 Plus, and 20 hours on iPhone 15, equaling the record set last year on the iPhone 14.

Also note, the MagSafe function via a magnet to be integrated into the back of the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus. The latter allows you to perfectly position a Qi wireless charger (to optimize charging) or various accessories offered by the Apple firm, for example a card holder or a double Qi charger (to restore energy to a iPhone and an Apple Watch simultaneously).
