Upcoming Star Wars Movies, Kathleen Kennedy Brings Order to the Jedi

In a recent interview, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy had a lot to say about future Star Wars movies in theaters.

Since 2019 and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, no more films from the franchise have been released in theaters. Behind the scenes, things are hectic and projects are piling up.

New Jedi Order, New Star Wars Chapter

The first upcoming movie will be New Jedi Order. It will take place fifteen years after the events of the last trilogy and will feature Rey (Daisy Ridley) in the midst of an attempt to rebuild the Jedi Order. For Kathleen Kennedy, this film will be the first of a new chapter: “I think it's a great opportunity to introduce new characters and start over with something new”.

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will direct New Jedi Order from a screenplay written by Steven Knight. For the moment, filming should take place in the spring of 2024 before a release in May 2026. The boss of Lucasfilm clarified, not without a certain humor, that the film would have a connection with one of the other Star Wars films currently in development , Dawn of the Jedi, set to be directed by James Mangold and set 25,000 years before the Skywalker saga.

Eyes full of stars

Another Star Wars film is programmed in Disney's shelves to be released on December 18, 2026, without it being known for the moment whether it will be the aforementioned James Mangold film or the Star Wars film directed by Dave Filoni, also in the pipes. It will be set in the era of The Mandalorian and follow "the escalating war between the Imperials and the nascent New Republic, it will be the culmination of several Star Wars series on Disney+".
