Sony Xperia 1 V smartphone: first high-end model with CMOS sensor

In addition to the Sony Xperia 10 V, the presentation of which is to come in our columns, the Japanese manufacturer Sony presented its latest 5G-compatible premium smartphone a few days ago, still endowed with the renowned elegance that characterizes the brand, the Xperia 1 V.

The latest of Sony's premium 5G smartphones, the Xperia 1 V replaces the Sony Xperia 1-IV which appeared last year at the same time.

Sony Xperia 1 V, screen and audio capabilities

On the menu, there is of course the screen in 21/9 Ultra HD 4K Oled 6.5'' (16.51 cm) format with a resolution of 1,644 x 3,840 pixels (643 ppi), HDR10 compatible and equipped with 'a refresh rate of 120 hertz.

It further features full-range stereo speakers to enhance the sound of bass and kick drums. It also takes advantage of Sony's exclusive spatial audio technology called 360 Reality Audio Upmix. In addition, it takes advantage of the new DSEE Ultimate technology. The latter uses artificial intelligence to adapt the audio frequency and the signal rate in real time for an always optimized sound quality. A 3.5 mm mini-jack socket is also included. Ditto for 192 kHz/24-bit compatibility.

Sony Xperia 1 V, photo and video capabilities

With the Xperia 1V smartphone, Sony is positioning its newborn in the photography sector with remarkable performance, especially in low light conditions with approximately double the light capture compared to the previous model. At the back, therefore, there is a triple Cmos lens with three optimized Zeiss optics: wide-angle 48 Mpxls Exmor T for mobile about 1.7 times larger than last year's specimen (f / 1.9, 24 mm , Dual Pixel PDAF, stabilized, 1.12µm photosite) + 12MP telephoto lens (85mm-125mm, f/2.3-f/2.8, Dual Pixel PDAF, 3.5x-5.2x optical zoom, stabilized) + ultra-wide-angle 12 Mpxls (16 mm, f / 2.2, Dual Pixel PDAF). Finally, the selfie camera is also equipped with a 12 Mpxls image sensor (24 mm, f/2.0, 1.25 µm photosite). The latter allows noise reduction in dark areas and taking selfies in UHD 4K and HDR definition.

On the photographic side, the Sony Xperia 1V offers Eye AF (which detects and tracks the subject's eyes) in real time for humans and animals, as well as improved real-time tracking. Also noteworthy is the ability of the Xperia 1 V to take burst photos up to 30 fps with noise reduction in low light, ideal for capturing images of a moving scene. Note that video capture is possible up to 2160p at 120 fps or 1080p at 120 fps on the APN and up to 2160p at 30 fps or 1080p at 60 fps on the selfie camera.

Sony Xperia 1V, processor and battery

The processor is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Octa Core specimen (1 x 3.2 GHz Cortex-X3 + 2 x 2.8 GHz Cortex-A715 + 2 x 2.8 GHz Cortex-A710 + 3 x 2.0 GHz Cortex-A510) engraved in 4 nm and supported by an Adreno 740 graphics chip, 12 GB of Ram and 256 GB of flash memory (expandable by micro-SDXC card up to 1 TB). The device is powered by the latest Android 13 operating system and has a 5000 mAh battery with wireless charging, Reverse Charging and 30 W fast charging (50% in just 30 minutes).

Sony Xperia 1 V, connectors, connectivity and specifications in bulk

On the connection side, there is a USB Type-C port, Wi-Fi 6E Dual Band compatibility, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, Bluetooth 5.2 (APT-X HD and LDAC)) and NFC for connectivity. Finally, a fingerprint sensor under the screen is in order. Another good point, the Sony Xperia 1 V is resistant to water (IP65/68 certifications) as well as to shocks (Corning Gorilla Glass Victus coating on the front and back).

Finally, let's notice a new microphone placed near the back camera, giving priority to voices, recorded clearly even in a noisy outdoor environment.
