France: 84% of televisions are connected

Video streaming up and piracy down in increasingly connected French households.

Arcep and Arcom (Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications, Posts and Press Distribution, and Regulatory Authority for Audiovisual and Digital Communication) have published the third edition of their common repository of digital uses .

Smart TV, star equipment of French households

It shows that television remains the first connected device in households, with 84% of televisions connected to the Internet. A figure on the rise, in particular thanks to the deployment and accessibility of fiber optics. Behind the television are connected speakers with voice assistant and more broadly connected objects, the proportion of which has increased by 7% compared to 2020 to reach 40%.

Increase in paid services and decrease in piracy

Video on demand by subscription - or SVOD or streaming - brings together 9.4 million daily users on average in the second quarter of 2022. At the same time, piracy fell by 8% last year for sports events, and 6% for series and films.
