Oled TV LG C2 and LG G2: Firmware 03.20.24 for HDR Dolby Vision IQ Precision Detail function update

The Korean manufacturer yesterday released a Firmware update for its Oled C2 and G2 TV series. The latter adds the HDR Dolby Vision IQ Precision Detail process unveiled at the CES show in Las Vegas 2022 last January. Plus minor improvements and other bugfixes.

Relations between LG and Dolby Laboratories are still in good shape. After introducing HDR Dolby Vision and HDR Dolby Vision IQ on its Oled TVs, not to mention HDR Dolby Vision 4K120 compatibility, LG is previewing the HDR Dolby Vision IQ Precision Detail function on its C2 and G2 televisions.

HDR Dolby Vision IQ Precision Detail, késako?

As a reminder, this takes into account information from the TV's light sensor in order to display a Dolby Vision HDR image that is always perfectly configured regardless of the surrounding light conditions. A feature accessible via the Firmware update 03.20.24 available on the LG website. Combined with the presence of the new Alpha 9 Gen 5 processor (see our CES 22 news > New Alpha 9 Gen 5 processor for LG Oled TV and QNED Mini LED), the HDR Dolby Vision IQ Precision Detail function should quickly be available for the series LG Z2 Oled TV and LG QNED99 Mini LED.

Precision, once the update is installed, the Precision Detail setting can be accessed in the Picture Settings > Advanced > Clarity menu when the TV is playing HDR Dolby Vision content.

HDR Dolby Vision IQ Precision Detail, what about other TV brands?

Namely, the HDR Dolby Vision IQ Precision Detail process should appear on other TVs on the market in some time. Indeed, the founder MediaTek has confirmed that its SoC (System on Chip) present in a multitude of televisions of all brands will integrate the new functionality from Dolby Laboratories from the second half of 2022. It should therefore be accessible on certain TV references dss ranges 2023, at worst 2024.
