Oppo presents its latest prototype of a selfie camera integrated under the screen of a smartphone, the result of an iterative development started in 2018. The methods deployed aim in particular to improve the loss of screen uniformity at the level of the area above the camera, and poor image quality due to the camera obstructing the screen.
400 dpi and HDR technology on the program
To overcome these problems, Oppo uses smaller pixels to achieve a uniform density of 400 dpi across the screen. No difference in quality is thus noticeable between the camera area and the rest of the screen. For capture quality, Oppo uses imaging algorithms - diffraction reduction, HDR and automatic white balance - to reduce some annoying side effects typical of underscreen cameras, such as blurry images and reflections.
You can see photos captured by this prototype above, demonstrating its capabilities. No date has been announced for the implementation of these technologies on a mainstream model, but it will not be long in view of the confidence displayed by Oppo.
