MegaDrive Mini 2, the return (in Japan)

The retro wave is back, this time with a new version of the MegaDrive Mini, featuring a new selection of old Sega games.

After the MegaDrive Mini released in 2019, Sega announces a second version called MegaDrive 2, intended for the moment for Japanese territory only. As a reminder, this machine is part of the trend of Plug&Play machines, a reduced-scale reconstruction of consoles released in the 80s and 90s, integrating several dozen ready-to-use games.

Great Sonic CD

This new version has the particularity of including in its catalog of Mega CD games, an extension which at the time added a CD player to the MegaDrive, allowing better sound quality and some additional graphic prowess. The device was not really successful but generated some excellent titles like Sonic CD, included in this new version.

Street Fighter 2 on the program?

Among the other confirmed titles (out of a total of 50) we also note the fabulous shoot'em up Thunder Force 4, Virtua Racing and Shining Force CD. Note a new 6-button controller (against 3 for the first MegaDrive Mini) which suggests that the famous Street Fighter 2 or its sequels could be part of the final list of games.

The MegaDrive 2 will be released in Japan on October 27 at an indicative price of 9,980 yen (approximately €72), with the option of a miniature replica also - but not functional - of the Mega CD for 4,500 yen (approximately €32 ).
