The wind chessboard, an unknown Iranian masterpiece soon at Carlotta

After the death of his wife, Haji Amou (Mohamad Ali Keshavarz), a patriarchal and corrupt merchant, hatches a plan to get rid of his beautiful daughter (Fakhri Khorvash), the rich heiress of the luxurious property they occupy. Immobilized in a wheelchair, she thinks she can count on her servant who is playing a double game...

Directed in 1976 by Mohammad Reza Aslani, The Chessboard of the Wind is one of the outstanding works of the Iranian pre-revolution. Banned in its country of origin and finally accessible after 45 years, this nugget of incredible modernity summons both painting and poetry to probe the failings of a deliquescent bourgeoisie.
