1979: buoyed by the success of their second album, Reggatta de Blanc, the new wave group The Police, formed by Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland, set off on their first world tour, which continued over a large part of 1980.
Young and hungry
A crucial moment in the career of the English trio which ensured its place in the history of pop, as guitarist Andy Summers explains: “Like Napoleon, we wanted to conquer the world. We were young and hungry. In the excitement of the moment, we decided to go around the world and film the whole adventure. No rock band, at least, had ever done that. We barely had the popularity to be programmed around the world”.
A new film on Blu-Ray and DVD
It is this appetite and this energy that captures the live documentary The Police: Around the World, which follows the band in Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, India and even France, on stage and behind the scenes. The film was released in 1982 on VHS and laserdisc but had never been reissued on Blu-Ray and DVD.
This will be done on May 20, 2022 with the release of The Police: Around the World - Restored & Expanded in different editions: CD/DVD, CD/Blu-Ray and vinyl/DVD. The film will be offered in a restored and remastered version (DTS-HD audio track on Blu-Ray) with four bonus songs filmed. Vinyls and CDs will bring together previously unreleased live songs recorded in Japan, Hong Kong and England.
