QD Oled 83'' TV panels: Samsung Display would be preparing the ground for 2027
09.10.2026 • 08h25
Limited so far to a maximum diagonal of 77" (196 cm), QD Oled televisions could be available in a larger size in 2027. The information was mentioned during the recent annual British TV shootout, the HDTVtest Shootout TV. Samsung Display would begin production of 83'' (211 cm) QD Oled panels next year, thus challenging LG Display’s monopoly with its Tandem Woled 2.0 technology at this size.
If the market for very large OLED diagonals, 83'' (211 cm) and 97'' (246 cm), is today the preserve of LG Display with its Tandem Woled (White Oled) technology, the situation could change significantly very soon…

Vincent Teoh’s little sentence that revives the market
It was while announcing the results of his HDTVtest Shootout TV 2026 comparison in video form that the highly respected and respectable calibrator Vincent Teoh dropped the information. In mentioning the availability of large sizes on the market in the face of the rise of Mini LED LCD, the expert naturally let slip a small sentence heavy with meaning: “QD Oled televisions currently top out at 77", but that will change next year”.
&nbs;
If the statement may seem innocuous, it is of major importance within the display industry. On the X network, like the AVcesar editorial team (which is also in contact with well-informed sources who do not deny the information), enthusiasts and analysts immediately made the only possible deduction: the maximum size of QD Oled TV panels should therefore be 83" in 2027, compared with 77" until now.

Samsung Electronics, Sony and Panasonic in ambush
This leak unofficially confirms the optimization underway for several quarters in Samsung Display’s Quantum Dots Oled mother-panel plant. If production of 83'' QD Oled panels is indeed launched next year, they should be offered in TV ranges from Samsung Electronics, perhaps Philips and possibly Panasonic, Philips and Sony.
&nbs;
If you follow AVcesar news, you know that the two Japanese manufacturers are in a particular situation: Sony’s TV division is now in the hands of the Chinese TCL (cf. our news Bravia Inc, a Sony-TCL partnership that retains the Sony DNA), not very keen to support QD Oled or White Oled technologies, while Panasonic has entrusted the development, marketing and distribution of its TVs in Europe to the Chinese Skyworth (cf. our news Panasonic TV: assured future and preserved identity for 2027?).
&nbs;
Of course, for the time being these are projections stemming from a strong leak. More details are expected at the next CES show in Las Vegas in January 2027.
