iPhone Duo: the replaceable screen protector to hide the crease

The nano-textured protective layer of the main screen of the iPhone Duo is replaceable. Excellent news both for the longevity of the device and for reducing the traditional visible crease problem inherent in foldable models.

Apple is arriving, admittedly late, on the foldable smartphone market with its iPhone Duo (see our news item iPhone Duo: Apple finally joins the fold with its first foldable smartphone), but the Californian manufacturer immediately stands out with an inner display featuring a nano-textured layer for a new matte finish. A specific finish that greatly helps reduce the visibility of the unsightly central crease on the surface, the real Achilles’ heel of the competition.

An inevitable wear and tear offset by after-sales service By taking a look at a recently posted Apple support page, we learn that this famous nano-textured layer is replaceable, which is truly good news for the device’s durability. Indeed, even if you take meticulous care of your device, the central part may mechanically wear over the years and opening cycles, and thus make the crease more visible. If one day it seems too pronounced, simply have this surface layer replaced to get back an almost like-new screen.

A mandatory trip to a technician Note, however, that the operation is not something you can improvise at home on a corner table. The replacement must absolutely be carried out by an Apple professional (in an Apple Store or authorized service center) and it will cost you €19 (a preferential rate likely reserved for Apple Care insurance customers).
