iPhone Duo: very limited stock for Apple's first foldable smartphone?

The story that never ends… Even after its official announcement, the iPhone Duo continues to encounter production difficulties that will have a direct impact on the available stock at its release, scheduled for October 16.

A few days before its launch, we learn that Apple’s very first foldable-screen smartphone, the iPhone Duo, is running into production difficulties. “Again,” will say those who followed the millions of episodes that claimed the same thing starting last spring, when Apple began production tests of this device with its complex design. This new installment is reported by a source close to the supply chain of the Foxconn assembly plant.

Insufficient assembly yield

Thus, as of September 17, the assembly yield of the iPhone Duo was a little over 60%, below Apple’s standards. It will still take six months for this rate to approach that of the company’s other smartphones. That said, at the time of writing, Foxconn is losing time and energy, and therefore money, constantly adjusting the production equipment, the assembly process, and the settings to achieve its goals.

Reduced volumes for 2026

Logical consequence, Apple is aiming for production of only 6 to 8 million units for 2026, knowing that a device like the iPhone Pro or iPhone Pro Max is in the range of 20 to 30 million over a similar period.
