Home Video Saga: the event Kickstarter campaign about the history of home cinema is launched

The Home Video Saga project is reaching a new crucial milestone. After a first announcement that had already whetted the appetites of physical media enthusiasts, this two-hour hybrid documentary retracing the evolution of formats, from the venerable Super 8 to the gleaming [abc]4K[/abc] [abc]Ultra HD Blu-Ray[/abc], is finally arriving on the Kickstarter platform. Focused on technological evolution seen through the prism of George Lucas’s work, a true benchmark for our Home Cinema setups for decades, this project led by French filmmaker Jean‑Antoine Lacolle, known as Jay (VFX artist and creator of the YouTube channel Le labo de Jay), is now calling on the community to come to life.

 

 

A hybrid project: documentary, fiction and archives Designed both as a documentary film, a declaration of love to physical media, and an ambitious publishing project, Home Video Saga intends to deliver an unprecedented collector’s item. In addition to the 2-hour docu-fiction currently in production (which still requires many shoots and the addition of visual/3D effects), the project has brought together prestigious partners. Exclusive collaborations have thus been signed with giants such as Dolby, DTS and THX to integrate the famous demo trailers directly into the future discs.

 

 

Exclusive and non-commercial 4K Ultra HD physical editions The Kickstarter page offers a wide range of rewards. This goes from the purely digital version (Digital Edition) to very high-quality physical box sets, including the 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray and numerous printed extras (a collector’s book, genuine 35 mm archive frame stills, illustrations...). The creator does warn, however: the licenses negotiated with the rights holders, and notably with the audio labs, are valid only for private use and strictly reserved for contributors to this campaign. These ultra-collector editions will therefore never be sold in traditional stores nor reissued in the future.

 

 

Delivery planned for 2027 and 2028 In order to absorb potential industrial contingencies (UHD Blu-Ray pressing times, finalizing special effects, international logistics), the project has adopted a deliberately cautious schedule. The creator thus expects the digital version of the documentary to be available in December 2027, while the generous physical box sets should not arrive in mailboxes before May 2028.
