On the occasion of its latest system update, version 23.0.0, the Nintendo Switch 2 console is now compatible with the [abc]VRR[/abc] feature, or Variable Refresh Rate, which makes it possible to synchronize the refresh rate of the television or monitor with that of the game.
Reduction of stuttering and image tearing
As a result of this synchronization, screen tearing is reduced, as are motion irregularities and visible stuttering when performance varies. VRR is already a mainstay of rival consoles and PCs, and was originally supposed to be available when the Switch 2 launched last year, before being canceled at the last minute.
Mandatory dock update
It should be noted that VRR was still present on the console's small screen, but it is now accessible with the dock on a large screen, provided of course that it is VRR-compatible. A technical detail verified for the occasion: to benefit from it, the console's official dock must also be updated without fail from the system settings. Compatible games are not yet legion for the moment (only the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour application seems to make concrete use of it for now), but there is no doubt that developers will now rush to add this feature to their titles via future software patches.
The 23.0.0 update is already available for free download since September 10, 2026.
