IFA 26 > Philips Fidelio FA7: connected, bi-amplified micro hi-fi system

On the occasion of the IFA trade show in Berlin, Philips Sound presented in more detail the Fidelio FA7, a micro Hi-Fi system combining the design of traditional separate components with cutting-edge connectivity. Expected in October, it includes an audio CD player, high-resolution streaming, and bi-amplified 120 W RMS amplification.

Presented last week at IFA, the new Philips Fidelio FA7 micro hi-fi system is aimed at demanding listeners looking for a compact system without compromising on soundstage. Drawing inspiration from the classic design of Hi-Fi components, with its brushed aluminum main unit and its speakers finished in glossy piano black (whose magnetic grilles can be removed), it promises deep bass (editor’s note: this can be confirmed from having attended a demo), a clear midrange and detailed highs. The information displayed (source, station, music) is also readable on a color screen on the front.

Philips Fidelio FA7, 120 W bi-amplification and custom speakers The FA7’s sound reproduction is based on a bi-amplified design delivering a total power of 120 W RMS, managed by an active crossover to ensure signal precision. A first 60 W amplifier is dedicated to the two 13.3 cm (5.25'') midrange/woofer speakers featuring a braided fiberglass cone. The second 60 W amplifier specifically powers the two 25 mm (1'') titanium dome tweeters. The speakers also integrate a shaped port to optimize low-frequency performance.

Philips Fidelio FA7, full wireless connectivity and Lossless streaming Versatility is at the heart of this system, which multiplies sources: CD audio player, web radios, podcasts, DAB+ and FM radio. Streaming is not left out, with Wi-Fi compatibility including AirPlay 2 and Google Cast, as well as native integration of Spotify Lossless, Tidal Connect and Qobuz Connect. Bluetooth 6.0 (with multipoint connection) also answers the call, supporting high-resolution codecs LDAC and LC3 (24 bits/96 kHz). It is complemented by Auracast technology allowing music to be broadcast to other compatible speakers. The whole system is controlled via the supplied physical remote control or the Philips Entertainment app.

Philips Fidelio FA7, wired connectivity and eco-responsible design In addition to its wireless capabilities, the Philips Fidelio FA7 can accommodate external sources such as a turntable, a television or a console. The connectivity includes an optical input, an RCA input, a USB-A port for playing drives, a 3.5 mm mini-jack input and a 3.5 mm headphone output. Finally, the FA7 uses certified GRS recycled plastics and is delivered in FSC-certified recycled cardboard packaging, with soy-based inks.

The Philips Fidelio FA7 micro hi-fi system will be available starting in October. Suggested retail price: 599.99 euros.
