Xbox: a mega-deal worth 300 million dollars to adapt its IPs for film and streaming?

Faced with the growing success of PlayStation license adaptations on the big and small screen, Microsoft is preparing a major counteroffensive. The American giant is reportedly looking to partner with a single Hollywood studio through a global deal estimated at more than 300 million dollars to bring its flagship franchises such as Halo, Diablo, or The Elder Scrolls to the screen.

With big projects behind it and on the way, Sony is doing remarkably well in adapting its PlayStation video games into films or series (Uncharted, Gran Turismo, and soon God of War or Helldivers…), especially compared with its competitor Xbox. If one had to compare PlayStation and Xbox in this area, the latter is clearly lagging behind. But the American giant is far from giving up on the subject, quite the opposite, and would love to see a title like Diablo on the big screen one day.

A single partner to manage all the licenses A disappointment with the Halo series and the Gears of War one, which we have heard nothing about for years, these are more or less Xbox’s only achievements. But the company intends to make up for it in this area. That is what leaks reported by the site Puck reveal, explaining that Xbox wants to team up with one single studio to handle all its licenses.

Where Sony or Sega hand over their adaptations to various companies, Xbox wants to entrust its licenses (Halo, Diablo or World of Warcraft for example) to a studio that will take care of all adaptations. Big names like Netflix, Paramount, and Universal are apparently already interested.

An agreement that makes studios pale However, Xbox would like a sum of 300 million dollars just for a long-term deal, and one of the potential partners reportedly already “paled” just at hearing that figure.
