Fainting detection, one day on the Samsung Galaxy Watch
01.06.2026 • 19h12
The Apple Watch may have cause for concern regarding the upcoming fainting detection feature that Samsung is preparing for its smartwatches.
Samsung may add a fainting detection feature (before fainting occurs) to its Galaxy Watch smartwatches in the future. This could make Apple Watch fall detection "obsolete," since fainting is generally the cause of falls. Prediction is accelerating. Samsung is working with Gwangmyeong Hospital in Korea to predict the onset of vasovagal syncope, one of the most common causes of fainting, with high accuracy. Researchers are using an older Galaxy Watch 6 from 2023 for their tests, leveraging the heart rate and blood pressure sensors to detect signs of fainting before it happens. Currently, the feature can detect syncope 5 minutes before it occurs, with 84% accuracy. Testing is ongoing. We hope they will quickly become satisfactory enough for this detection feature to arrive on Galaxy Watch soon.
