Is the foldable iPad finished?
01.05.2026 • 16h40
While it was thought to be merely delayed, the foldable iPad, in development at Apple for years, may ultimately not see the light of day at all.
Apple never reveals anything about its products in development, because while some finally materialize after years of work, like the foldable iPhone expected at the end of 2026, others end up shelved, like the famous Apple Car, for example. Another of these products might never see the light of day: the foldable iPad, which has also been talked about for years. Based on several sources familiar with the matter, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg recently broke the bad news, whereas just a few weeks ago he was predicting a delay (to 2029) due to technical difficulties, notably the implementation of the large 18-inch (45.7 cm) foldable screen. Possible reprieve: the success of the iPhone Ultra could revive the idea of a foldable iPad. There remains hope, however, because if the iPhone Ultra with its foldable screen is a success and sells like hotcakes, a tablet version could also appeal to the public, marking the resurrection of the foldable iPad.
