LG Micro RGB Evo TVs MRGB96B, MRGB9MB, MRGB86B, MRGB87B and MRGB86B: updated model numbers and prices

Since our initial news article on LG's RGB TV series at CES 2026 in Las Vegas last January (see our CES 26 news article > LG Micro RGB Evo TVs: LG MRGB85, LG MRGB9M, and LG MRGB95 series), much has changed. Firstly, some series distributed in France have changed their names; for example, the LG MRGB96B and LG MRGB86B have become LG MRGB95B and LG MRGB85B, respectively. Similarly, two additional series have been launched in France: the LG MRGB87B and LG MRGB88B. Finally, the LG MRGB9M series retains its name in France.

In January, after the opening of the CES trade show in Las Vegas, we were able to catch up with colleagues from around the world and even some "insiders" about the technologies presented by brands/manufacturers at their booths. And wouldn't you know it, we learned some interesting things about the LG Micro RGB Evo TV series… As a reminder, in mid-December, LG announced three new RGB-backlit LCD TV series (with LEDs smaller than 100 µm or 0.1 mm): the MRGB95, MRGB9M, and MRGB85. For LG, the idea was to avoid ceding ground to the competition in the ultra-premium LCD TV market. But there's a catch… Not all LG Mini RGB backlights are created equal. First, the "M" prefix is used interchangeably for either of LG's technologies: Micro RGB and Mini RGB. And we learned at CES that only the LG MRGB95 series, therefore the LG MRGB96B in France, is equipped with a true Micro RGB Evo backlighting system (with over 1,000 suspected zones), meaning triplets of RGB LEDs placed across the entire surface of the TV screen, on the back of the panel. Second, Mini RGB backlighting systems are like hunters. Like good hunters and bad hunters, in 2026 LG offered several types of Mini RGB backlighting: Full Mini RGB, based on Full LED Local Dimming (like the brand's QNED93B series, but without RGB technology), and Edge Mini RGB, based on an Edge LED. The latter is used in the LG MRGB9M and LG MRGB85 series (the latter being the LG MRGB86 in France), as well as the LG MRGB87B and LG MRGB88B models announced in France (the differences are purely cosmetic).

So, we have to get used to it: while RGB Mini LED backlighting systems were initially exclusively FALD (Full Array Local Dimming), today there are many different types, including Edge LED… Now that this concept is understood, we'll recap the other main specifications of the various Micro RGB Evo/Mini RGB Evo series known at the time of writing.

LG MRGB96 Micro RGB TVs, from 75" to 100"

At the top of the Micro RGB range sits the MRGB96B series, available in 75" (191 cm), 86" (218 cm), and 100" (254 cm). LG mentions "more than a thousand individual zones" in its Micro RGB backlighting for the largest screen size, a figure far from the 20,000+ zone solutions already seen from some competitors, but which should nevertheless represent a significant leap in quality compared to more conventional Mini LEDs. The entire system is powered by the Alpha 11 processor, previously reserved for the brand's OLED TVs, here in its Alpha 11 AI Gen 3 version equipped with Double Super Upscaling to simultaneously manage two upscaling processes via artificial intelligence. It also features a 165 Hz display (and 165 Hz VRR) and the Motion Boost function. 330 Hz (in 1080p) is also included. The same goes for FreeSync Premium compatibility. LG also claims extreme color performance with the RGB Primary Color Ultra process: 100% coverage of the BT.2020, DCI-P3, and Adobe RGB gamuts, with Intertek certification to back it up. On paper, this should far surpass the vast majority of 2025 model year TVs, both LCD and OLED, which essentially only cover the entirety or nearly the entire DCI-P3 gamut, even though most content is mastered in this gamut. We'll see if the promise is kept… There are also four HDMI 2.1 inputs, Dolby Vision Gaming 120 Hz HDR, AMD FreeSync certification, 40 W of audio equipment, and Dolby certification. Atmos, the webOS26 interface, the Wow Synergy feature (when used with an LG soundbar), and a central stand, even on the 100-inch model.

LG MRGB9M Mini RGB TVs
The MRGB9M series includes the LG 65MRGB9M (65", 165 cm), LG 75MRGB9M (75"), and LG 86MRGB9M (86", 219 cm) and retains most of the technical specifications mentioned for the MRGB96 (Alpha 11 Gen 3 processor included), with the exception of the previously mentioned backlighting system, the RGB Primary Color Pro technology, and a 2026 ZeroConnect 144 Hz wireless connection box (see photo below), designed to relocate the connections and simplify wall mounting. The 288 Hz Motion Booster function (in 1080p) is present. LG MRG86B, LG MRG87B and LG MRG88B Mini RGB TVs. The LG MRGB86B (see photo below), LG MRGB87B and LG MRGB88B series include four models for the first, and five for the other two, ranging from 50" to 86", including 55", 65", and 75" sizes. Equipped with the Alpha 8 Gen 3 chip, they aim to popularize the MRGB (Mini RGB) designation. More affordable but still featuring a 144Hz VRR display (and 288Hz Motion Booster in 1080p), these TVs offer less sophisticated Precision Dimming video processing than the MRGB96 models (specifications to be announced later). For the rest, they include Dolby Vision/Dolby Atmos HDR compatibility, AMD FreeSync certification, three HDMI 2.1 inputs, Dolby Vision Gaming 120Hz HDR, AMD FreeSync certification, 20W audio, the webOS26 interface with a highly customizable My Page home screen and a pervasive AI overlay (Copilot and Gemini modules planned) for content recommendation, and Wow Synergy functionality (when used with an LG soundbar). Availability is announced starting in May.
