Is the "two-tone" back on the iPhone 18 Pro a thing of the past?

The two-tone back of the iPhone 17 Pro models could give way to a more uniform look on next year's models.
The iPhone 17 Pro/Max are high-performance machines, even if their design has raised a few eyebrows, particularly with the horizontal camera module and the two-tone back. The iPhone 18 Pro/Pro Max features a redesigned back for a more uniform look, or nearly so. This contrast is due to the use of a Ceramic Shield 2 glass cutout (on an aluminum background) for wireless charging, which should be less pronounced on the iPhone 18 Pro/Max, according to Chinese leaker Instant Digital, who has proven the reliability of their predictions in the past. For these next-year models, the glass manufacturing process will be updated to minimize the color difference with the aluminum, for a more harmonious appearance. As a reminder, the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max will be released at the end of 2026, alongside the very first iPhone with a foldable screen, and possibly the iPhone Air 2, if the latter is not delayed (see our news article "iPhone Air 2 delayed to 2027?").
