iPhone 18, a new "cheaper" button to produce?

The technology behind the iPhone's Camera button is too sophisticated and expensive; it could be scaled back.
According to Chinese leaker Instant Digital on the Weibo network, Apple is working on simplifying the structure of the Camera button on the upcoming iPhone 18 to reduce production costs. iPhone Camera Button: Is the capacitive layer a thing of the past? The button currently uses capacitive and pressure sensors under a sapphire crystal surface to recognize pressure levels and finger swipes. This sophisticated technology is expected to be replaced by simple pressure recognition, bypassing the capacitive layer responsible for gesture recognition. This approach has already been used by other devices like the Oppo X8 Ultra and Vivo X200 Ultra, allowing for seemingly identical controls that are cheaper to produce and cheaper to repair in case of malfunction or breakage.
