Apple's annual conference took place two days ago, on September 9th, leaving four new iPhones in its wake, including the classic frontrunner, the iPhone 17.
iPhone 17: Zoom in on the screen££££
This model benefits from a larger [abc]Oled[/abc] Super Retina XDR screen than its predecessor, with a diagonal of 6.3" (16 cm) which, like the entire iPhone 17 range, benefits for the first time from ProMotion technology, i.e. the adaptive refresh rate of 1 Hz for the Always-on function up to 120 hertz. Since its arrival with the iPhone 13 range, this mode was reserved only for iPhone Pro. Now you have the Always On mode which displays all kinds of information, even when the smartphone is not in use, without draining the battery. In terms of durability, the screen is covered with Ceramic Shield 2 material, offering superior protection against scratches and breakages. There is also a maximum brightness of 3,000 nits outdoors (a first for an iPhone), as well as twice the contrast.
iPhone 17: Zoom on the camera and the selfie camera££££
On the back is a dual 48 MP camera, the first equipped with a 2x optical zoom, the second a 48 MP ultra-wide-angle sensor with four times the resolution of the previous generation, for better images in wide-angle or macro mode. Video recording is possible up to [abc]2 160p[/abc]/60 [abc]HDR Dolby Vision[/abc], in both Action and Cinematic modes. Sound is captured in Spatial Audio for immersive listening (with compatible headphones or Apple Vision Pro). Another great improvement is the selfie sensor, which offers the biggest upgrade since the iPhone 12, with an 18-megapixel specimen. A square-shaped model, for the first time, allows the field of vision to be extended automatically if it detects several people, switching from Portrait mode to Landscape mode without having to turn the device. It also offers better quality images, especially in low light conditions, and can shoot stabilized videos up to 4K HDR. Also note a new feature previously reserved for Android devices, the ability to film with both cameras - rear and front - simultaneously, so you can see your face in a window on the captured image. Better late than never.
iPhone 17: A19 chip, connectivity and up to 512 GB of storage££££
The 3nm Hexa Core A19 processor features a six-core CPU and a five-core GPU (as in the new iPhone Air). Also note the new N1 chip which integrates [abc]Wi-Fi[/abc] 7, [abc]Bluetooth[/abc] 6 and Thread connectivity. Battery life is improved with Up to 30 hours of video playback, eight more than the iPhone 16. This improvement is due to the efficiency of the A19, coupled with the new iOS26 operating system.
Charging speed has also improved, with 50% battery (total capacity of 3,692 mAh) available after 20 minutes of charging thanks to the optional [abc]USB[/abc] adapter. Storage-wise, the previous 128 GB has disappeared in favor of 256 GB as standard, or 512 GB maximum. Available in sage, lavender, mist, white, or black finishes. Indicative prices:
• €969 for the iPhone 17 256 GB • €1,219 for the iPhone 17 512 GB
