200 MP sensor on iPhone, it’s coming (finally)

Created by Samsung a few years ago and integrated into many smartphones since, the high-resolution 200 MP lens could arrive on Apple iPhones, but not right away.

According to Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station, Apple is testing a 200MP sensor for one of its future iPhones.

No further details are provided, but we suspect this is a lens for the main rear module of an iPhone Pro or Pro Max model. For comparison, the current iPhone 16 Pro models are equipped with a maximum 48MP specimen, and rumors indicate the same value for the iPhone 17 Pro models next fall. The 200 Mpxls sensor would therefore not arrive immediately, and would perhaps be reserved for the famous anniversary model of the 2027 vintage.

As a reminder, the very first 200 Mpxls sensor was designed by Samsung in 2021 and then integrated into its Galaxy S range since the Galaxy S23 vintage 2023. Such a lens naturally allows for higher quality images, larger size, and better adaptation to difficult lighting conditions.
