BenQ W5800 4K Laser Projector, Updated Release Date, Price and Specs

Return as promised to the BenQ W5800 video projector announced by the Taiwanese manufacturer a few days ago, to clarify some technical characteristics previously missing, its marketing date and its indicative price.

The BenQ W5800 will soon expand the brand's range. With its Ultra HD 4K compatibility and DCI-P3 gamut coverage announced at 100% (without the presence of a WCG filter, a first) via a factory calibration report, the BenQ W5800 displays specifications perfectly suited to Home Cinema sessions , especially from HDR sources.

BenQ W5800, main specifications££££

HD Ready 2 160p and 3D Ready model, the BenQ W5800 is based on the 0.47'' (1.2 cm) DMD chip from Texas Instrument which counts 1 920 x 1080 pixels to generate an Ultra HD 4K image using the XPR4 (wobulation) process. The hyper-high switching speed of the mirrors (7 micro-seconds) is used via specific video processing to create 8 million pixels for each image displayed (a real pixel ultimately results in four pixels). The lens is made up of 14 lenses arranged in 7 pairs, treated with a low dispersion coating for optimized transparency.

The light source is laser in nature (blue) for a brightness of 2,600 lumens (reduced to 1 700 lumens after certified DCI-P3 calibration) and an announced lifespan of 20,000 hours (Normal world)/25,000 hours (Economic mode). Namely, the Lens Shift (+/-21% horizontal, +/-50% vertical) offers significant freedom of placement. The throw ratio shows 1.52-2.45.

BenQ W5800, specifications more££££

Based on HDR-PRO technology specifically optimized for video projection, the BenQ W5800 supports HDR10/HDR10+ and HDR HLG formats. In addition, HDR-PRO includes automatic color and skin tone mapping techniques to deliver an impressively realistic image. The contrast ratio displays 2,000,000:1 and the ISF and Fimmaker modes are included.

Another major development of the BenQ W5800, a new video processor from the TV universe, the Quad Core MediaTek MT9669 model. The latter offers, among other things, the Local Contrast Enhancer function to improve image quality through segmentation and analysis of more than 1,000 areas. Each of them benefits from a specific brightness and gamma curve. Finally, MEMC motion compensation is also included and gray scale calibration is now possible on 11 points. Still on the menu: a 1.6x motorized zoom to display a diagonal of up to 200'' (508 cm).

The audio section has no speakers. But the eARC function of HDMI input 1 with Pass-Through Dolby Atmos allows connection to a Home Cinema system. Finally, BenQ announces extreme discretion for its latest addition thanks to optimized ventilation with a maximum noise of 30 dB in Normal mode, 27 dB in Eco mode.

BenQ W5800, connectivity ££££

The connectivity has two HDCP 2.2 certified HDMI 2.0b inputs, including one with the eARC function as already mentioned, plus an RS-232C. Also present: an optical output, an Ethernet port and two powered USB Host ports.

Availability announced for the end of April. Indicative price: 4,999 euros.
