Samsung Display, rollable QD OLED TV in sight

According to our Korean colleagues from The Elec, the manufacturer Samsung could launch a rollable OLED TV in the future, like LG, but based on QD OLED technology.

The screen manufacturer Samsung Display, a subsidiary of the Samsung group, has reportedly begun developing the second generation of QD OLED panel technology, with the important property of being sufficiently flexible to be rolled up like a poster.

Samsung Display and rollable QD Oled panels As a reminder, the QD Oled panels used in the Sony A95K and Samsung QS95B televisions use two layers of glass, one at the front of the QD Oled panel, and another at the back (see illustration above). Samsung Display's goal is to develop a panel with a single layer of glass. In addition to a shorter and less complex and therefore less expensive manufacturing process, this new panel would also offer the necessary flexibility to roll up on itself, just like the LG OLED65R1 TV.
