First photo in The Lord of the Rings series, September 2, 2022 on Amazon

It's official, the Lord of the Rings series will be available on Amazon Prime Video on September 2, 2022.

As the filming of the first season of the series has just finished in New Zealand, a release date and a first photo are revealed by Amazon.

8 new episodes in Middle-earth

As a reminder, the adventure dates back to 2017, when Amazon acquired the television rights to JRR Tolkien's work for the modest sum of $ 250 million. The overall cost of the first season of 8 episodes is then estimated at $ 450 million. Amazon Studios specified at the time: “The series will take place in the famous Middle-earth and will take up some emblematic characters of the saga in a period of relative peace, thousands of years before the events of the books The Hobbit and The Lord of the JRR Tolkien rings ”.
