New "Perfect for PlayStation 5" features for Sony Bravia TV 2021

The synergy between Sony televisions and the brand's new console, the PlayStation 5, advances with new options available.

Last year, Sony introduced the Ready for PlayStation 5 and Perfect for PlayStation 5 labels for its Bravia televisions, in order to optimize compatibility between the PS5 console and the brand's TVs. Recently, Sony announced the addition of two new functions for its 2021 displays under the Perfect for PlayStation 5 label: Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode.

Automatic Game Mode and HDR

The first, which appears to be the Sony version of HGiG (HDR Gaming Interest Group) mode, allows the console to recognize the model of the connected Bravia TV in order to choose the most optimal HDR mode. The second, a kind of ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) function, allows the TV to detect if you are playing, in order to automatically switch to Game Mode to minimize latency and provide more responsive action.

2021 vintage Sony TV and soundbars concerned

The first models affected by these new functions will be the LCD references X90J, X95J and Z9J as well as the Oled A80J, A90J specimens, via a Firmware update by the end of the year (the PS5 will also benefit from an update). Finally, note that the Sony HT-A7000 and Sony HT-A5000 soundbars will also become compatible via an update in spring 2022.
